Colon Cleansing Journal

Just got Colonix and started it today.  I am going to try to keep a daily record of my progress to offer others the same help I was looking for myself.

A little background...35 yr old female, 5'6", 128 lbs.; exercise 4x/week; decent diet (lots of water, 4-6 fruits/veggies daily, mostly whole grains, very little meat, lots of organics, no soda or fast food, occasional tea/coffee/alcohol).  My big weakness is SUGAR!  I want to break that habit.

What got me interested in Colonix is the Paranil.  I am no stranger to fasts and cleanses, although I've never done Colonix or anything with a parasite component.  I ate a ton of crap over the holidays, and my BMs have been smaller, stickier, and not a fully formed log as they should be (never thought I'd be talking about logs to strangers, but here goes!).  I'd been wanting to do another cleanse, New Years and all, and after reading some of the reviews regarding parasites, I thought it was worth a shot.

The last couple weeks, I have been wondering if I could have parasites.  I get these odd fluttery sensations, like early on when I was pregnant, but right where the transverse colon goes into the descending colon, and the ascending to transverse colon as well - always in those two spots, and numerous times throughout the day.  Maybe it's just smooth muscles twitching or my intestines are knotted or something, but I'd like to know for sure.

Anyway, feel free to offer comments and suggestions, or let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 1:  took the Paranil and fiber mix.  The fiber tasted fine (I didn't mind the banana flavor, although I did mix it with OJ).  It didn't clump or coagulate too quickly, like some of the other psyllium products I've tried.  So far, I've had about 6 cups of water.

Had a large BM around noon, and a small one mid-afternoon.  Both came out easily, which is a relief given my recent problems, so off to a good start!  Nothing unusual, although the first one was larger than normal.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 2:  woke up with a slight need to go, not too intense.  I steeped the tea last night for 2 minutes, which is a good length of time for me (they recommend 1-2 minutes to start).  I've had Senna tea steeped longer, and it was NOT a good thing...woke up in the middle of the night feeling my intestines moving around and contracting - it was the weirdest feeling.  For anyone new to cleansing, I'd start out easy with the tea and increase the steeping time if you need to.  I thought the tea tasted pretty good, not too bitter, although you might not like it if you usually have sugar/honey in your tea.  It has a nice nutty sort of flavor.

Had a pretty large, soft poo mid-morning.  I definitely feel more regular so far in the first couple days.  I don't usually have a problem with constipation, but I'm not normally this regular either.  I'm sure all the water doesn't hurt.

One question for other users: I didn't get the Flora Protect Probiotics.  Do you think that makes a big difference?  I eat a lot of yogurt, so I can probably replenish some of the good bacteria from that, but I could pick something up at the health food store if it matters.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

I have the same question.  I have the Toxin out kit for the second month but i don't want to use anything out of it.
I would consider myself very resiliant healthwise, considering how I've treated my body in the last 35 years....

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

My husband and I did not take probiotics during the Colonix cleanse which we used for three months and did just fine.

The herbs don't seem to have the severe effect you would have from antibiotics that strip all the bacteria from the gut especially if they are specifically treating a parasite infestation.

There are several good brands of probiotics available and I might consider using some if I had been on a recent round of antibiotics or had some signs of a chronic yeast infection, often vaginal for gals, jock itch for guys. Athlete's foot, too, can indicate body PH is out of balance.

Hope the product works well for you!

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 3:  had two poos by 11am, woo-hoo!  The first one was pretty big and soft - not watery, but it didn't hold together very well.  The second one was smaller, lots of little individual pieces.  Nothing crazy coming out yet, but I do like the regularity.  Can't wait for the gross stuff to come out (I guess!).

Do you think an acidophilus supplement would be good enough?  I'd rather not invest a bunch more money in this until I see how it goes, but I have a bunch of acidophilus in my fridge.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

I think it should be just fine. It will help keep some friendly bacteria available to your system. We've used a multidophilus product too but I would use up what you have available.

Just a thought on the yogurt especially while your cleansing. If you buy the typical yogurt it may have a little more sugar than you might want (and sugar will feed yeast in the body). We have bought plain yogurt (available at any grocery store) and added fruit or used it make a fruit smoothie.

Keep us posted!

Day 4:  forgot to make the tea last night, so I didn't have a poo till after I ate a big lunch.  Nothing interesting to report...medium-sized and soft, but nothing unusual.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 8:  Got back from a 3-day trip last night.  I took all the Colonix stuff with me, and kept taking it while I was gone.  I've had at least one large poo every day, even while traveling.  I'm not really prone to constipation, but am more likely to have a harder time while traveling because I drink less water.  Anyway, that wasn't the case on this trip.

I had no troubles adjusting to the full scoop on Day 6 and the four Paranil capsules (other than I have a bad gag reflex, and sometimes it takes a couple tries to get all the pills down!).  Still nothing unusual coming out, just larger and more frequent than normal.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 9:  Last night I had a crampy feeling in my colon, like indigestion but in the wrong place (this was after two fairly large poos earlier in the day and before the tea).  It wasn't really painful, just uncomfortable, and the feeling lasted several hours until I went to bed.  Had my first weird-looking BM this morning.  Half of it was normal and half was a strange color and a totally different texture.

This afternoon I had another poo, also pretty large, but more normal looking.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 10: Had a ginormous poo this morning!  Oh my lord, it looked like a mac truck drove through me.  Nothing too weird in it, although there was a bit of stringy stuff.  Then I had a normal size one about an hour or so later.

I am brewing the tea for longer now.  I started at two minutes, and then upped it to 3.5 minutes when I upped the fiber on Day 6.  No problems from that - my body seems to be adjusting.  I do seem to be a lot more gassy, but that's tolerable.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Just had my fourth poo of the day.  None of them have been really unusual.  I didn't think I had eaten that much in the last couple days.  Where is it all coming from??  smile

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 11:  three small poos so far today; guess I'm making up for yesterday.  I think I steeped the tea too long last night (forgot to time it).  I woke up about 5am with some crazy movement and cramping in my intestines.  It's such an odd feeling.  Anyway, nothing unusual coming out today.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 14: I got a cold late last week, so I took it really easy this weekend.  Didn't take the tea at all for a couple days, and even skipped the paranil/colonix one day.  I figured my body didn't need to be dealing with anything else while I'm recovering.  Anyway, I had no problem going to the bathroom, but they weren't as big or as frequent without all the extra fiber.  Still feeling sick today, but definitely better, so I went back on the paranil/colonix.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 15:  Had four poos today, all pretty average sized.  The first couple were very soft; not diarrhea, but didn't stay fully formed.  The second two were more normal, although still pretty soft.

So, I'm halfway through the first month.  I haven't had anything really interesting come out - nothing black, tarry, or slimy, as some people have described.  The regularity is sort of nice, although I have to admit, I'm not really thrilled with going 3+ times a day - my bum gets a little sore!  I will definitely see it through the month, but I probably won't go any longer, unless I start to get some weird stuff coming out.

Day 16:  Had two smallish poos today, which was fine after going five times yesterday.  Nothing too interesting.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 17:  I've had two pretty large poos already, and it's only 9:00.  I hope today isn't like the other day where it just keeps coming out all day long!  I've been shortening the steep time on the tea (3 minutes last night).  I don't think I really need it, as I go one way or the other.  When I have the tea, I get really goopy poo, not diarrhea, but super soft.  I'm going to try to steep for 2 minutes tonight.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 21:  nothing too exciting to report.  I've been going regularly every day, at least once a day, if not more.  Last night I had a darker than normal poo come out (although normal otherwise), but I skipped the fiber yesterday morning, and the fiber seems to make it a lighter yellowish color.  I have also skipped the tea a couple times over the weekend, as I am already pretty regular, and don't want to worry about becoming dependent on the tea.  Hmmm, I feel #2 coming on, so it's off to the toilet I go!

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 22:  A largish poo earlier this morning, and a smaller one after lunch.  Steeped the tea for 2 minutes last night.  I didn't have a strong urge to go this morning, but the first one came out shortly after breakfast.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 23:  large, very soft poo in the morning, and another smaller one late in the afternoon.  Nothing terribly exciting in either one.

Day 24:  this is kind of interesting.  I went up to the mountains, just for an overnight trip.  Since I was only going to be gone one night, I didn't want to drag all the stuff up.  So, I didn't take the tea last night, and I didn't take the Paranil and fiber this morning.  Pretty soon after waking up, I had the urge to go, and it was ginormous!!  I mean, from the length of it, it looks like it filled up most of my large intestines.  This was on top of not getting enough water, and feeling super dehydrated after staying in this mountain condo (anyone who has been skiing in the Rockies probably knows what I'm talking about).  So, I thought that was pretty good sign that my body was able to process all that without the help of the tea or fiber.  Hopefully, that means I'm getting pretty well cleaned out and more efficient at processing waste.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Day 25:  no tea last night, but still had a medium-sized loose stool this morning right after breakfast.  Took the Paranil and fiber, although I only had half a scoop of fiber, as I was out of juice and couldn't choke down any more than that.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Hey, StuckUpButt, that's pretty funny!  I never expected anyone to be waiting on the edge of their seats to see what has come out of me.  wink  Anyway, here goes:

Day 26 and 27:  Nothing exceptional to report - a couple normal poos each day.

Day 28:  woke up late and running around like crazy trying to get the kids ready, so didn't have time for the fiber or tea.  Two small to medium-sized poos.  Felt pretty dehydrated most of the day.  I have noticed that when I don't drink a lot of water and take the fiber, I don't get that same sense of being completely emptied out when I go.  At this point, I am only taking the tea a couple times a week.  I don't feel like I need it, and it's definitely easier going than it was at the beginning of the month.

Day 29:  had Indian last night, and that always makes me go early in the morning - must be the spices or something.  Anyway, had a normal, soft stool first thing.  Then took the fiber and paranil, and have been drinking a bunch of water - still feeling dehydrated from yesterday.

Re: Colon Cleansing Journal

Month-end Summary:

I was going to hold off until the end of the month to do my synopsis, but I guess we're pretty close.  At the beginning of the month, I was concerned about the consistency of my poos (after lots of bad eating over the holidays), as well as a strange fluttery sensation in my large intestines that had been bugging me for a month or two.  I did some research, and discovered that that can be caused by parasites (although that’s not the only cause).  I was telling my Dad about it one day, and he said "sounds like you have parasites."  The thought had crossed my mind, but I was a bit disturbed to hear him say it.  We lived on a farm when we were kids, and he said they had to regularly de-worm us kids.  There are lots of ways to get parasites – eating/handling raw or undercooked meat or fish, improperly washed vegetables and fruit, etc., but I guess it’s often a big problem on farms with all the animals.  He told me about an incident where a 16-inch worm came out of my brother.  I was too young to remember this, but I asked my brother, and he said it was true.

I think many Americans, including myself, have a hard time believing we could have parasites, and we are fortunate in that we probably have a lot fewer than many of the developing countries around the world.  I don't think there is any question that parasites are a problem for many people, even in our country.  That doesn't necessarily mean everyone should run out and buy all kinds of expensive products out of fear, but in my case, I suspected I might have parasites and was willing to pay what I considered to be a pretty high price to find out for sure.

I’m still not sure whether I had parasites after doing the Colonix program, but that fluttery sensation is gone.  There were a few times I saw something that could have been part of a worm come out, but poking at it never revealed anything for certain; it could have just been part of a partially-digested something else.  I also saw things that looked like white rice or seeds, but this was after days I had actually eaten sesame seeds or rice (I eat a lot of that stuff), so again, I can’t say conclusively.  For me, it was worth the peace of mind to do the Colonix program, despite the high price.

Colonix does seem to have some benefits over other programs, at least for some people.  The fiber seemed a little easier on my system than some other brands I have tried.  I specifically chose Colonix because of the Paranil component, but if that’s not something that concerns you, you may be able to get just as much value out of a bottle of psyllium husk ($5-10 at a health food store) and drinking lots of water.  I cannot overestimate the importance of water, in my opinion.  You’re always supposed to drink 6-8 cups of water, not just when you’re on a cleanse (and no fair counting coffee, soda, or juice in that total!).  I’ve also taken Bentonite during a cleanse (Google ‘health benefits Bentonite’ if you want to learn more), as well as lemon, with good results.

Many Americans eat a lot of processed food and few fruits and veggies.  I think a lot of people’s digestive problems could be cleared up entirely just by increasing their water intake and fruits/veggies to the recommended 5-9/day (it’s not that hard, once you start trying; just start gradually and work your way up to what you consider beneficial).  But if you’re gunked up from a lifetime of abuse, a program like Colonix could help you jump-start your way back to health.

If you’re on this site reading these posts, I think you’ve already taken the most important step in managing your own health.  You may have to try a lot of things to see what works for you.  Don’t give up or get frustrated if Colonix or another product doesn’t do what it claims to for you.  Do your own research.  Keep experimenting until you get it right.  Nothing is more important than your health.  Good luck, and happy digestion to all.  Oh yeah, and sorry if I have offended anyone or grossed you out.  My intention has been to give an honest report of my experience doing this particular cleanse.
